Life is busy. We understand! Between work, keeping in touch with friends, prioritizing family, and juggling all of your everyday responsibilities, it can be easy to let eye care slip through the cracks. But there are a few things that you should never be too busy for — spending time with friends and family, investing time in activities you enjoy, and taking care of your health.
Annual eye exams may seem like an easy appointment to skip when your schedule gets tight, but eye health is an important part of maintaining your overall health.
Protect Yourself For The Ones You Love
It’s important to take care of ourselves if we plan on taking care of those we love. Receiving an eye exam is a crucial aspect to maintaining your health and wellness. It’s just like going to an annual check-up with your doctor. Your optometrist can find eye diseases, such as glaucoma, in their early stages, allowing you time to seek treatment before your symptoms become harder to treat.
Glaucoma is an eye disease that many develop without realizing it. It’s often not until you have sustained permanent vision loss that you notice something is wrong. By that time, it can be very difficult to control glaucoma and the corresponding vision loss. However, eye exams can detect early signs of high eye pressure and other risk factors that contribute to glaucoma as well as other eye diseases.
Annual eye exams can also detect many other serious health problems. At Hardin Valley Eyecare & Optical, we can see evidence of your overall health just by looking at your eyes in a comprehensive eye exam. Many people first learn they have serious health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even cancer from their routine eye exam.
Success Story – The Busiest Woman In The World
Recently, we spoke with Christie, who feels like one of the busiest women in the world, and also happens to be a patient of Dr. Travis Thompson for the past several years. She is a very involved mom of three and has multiple professional and personal responsibilities. Still, she finds time in her busy schedule to visit Hardin Valley Eyecare & Optical because she knows how many people rely on her to stay healthy.
Part of the hassle of scheduling an appointment is, well, trying to schedule your appointment! It can seem impossible to find a time that fits your schedule as well as your doctor’s availability.
Christie has never had a problem scheduling, however.
“I am always able to schedule appointments within a reasonable amount of time… Whether by email or phone, they [Hardin Valley Eyecare & Optical] have always been very prompt to respond!” she said.
Christie also doesn’t have the time to sit in a waiting room wondering when her name will be called.
“Appointments have always been on time, and I am in and out without feeling rushed and having received a thorough exam,” she said. “The best part? I don’t have to clear my schedule for hours!”
Her time is extremely valuable, so it is important that she gets the best care possible without losing big chunks of her day.
In addition, her visits with Hardin Valley Eyecare & Optical aren’t as simple as an annual eye exam. Christie wears contacts, so she has to maintain her supply. Thankfully, she has never had an issue reaching us, even via email, because of our quick responsiveness.
We always return her email within 24 hours. Because of our level of responsiveness and ‘get-it-done’ work ethic, she doesn’t have to worry about whether her order was submitted, when it will come in, and what she will do if there is a problem.
“The answer is: yes it was ordered, it will be in sooner than you think, and if there is a problem, they will fix it,” she said.
Finding Solutions That Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All
Christie has astigmatism, which can make finding the right fit for the contacts she needs difficult. She developed an allergy to a contact that she had been using for years, but Dr. Thompson was able to quickly find a solution. He made a recommendation that was an even better option than the contacts she originally used! Christie is seeing as clearly as ever and hasn’t experienced any issues from her contacts since.
“I save time and mindshare really,” she responded when asked how seeing Dr. Thompson has made her life easier. “I save time with efficient scheduling and in-office appointments.” Christie does most of her work from home. So, receiving quick, thorough, and efficient service is very valuable to both her and her entire family.
In Christie’s experience, Hardin Valley Eyecare & Optical has always been there for her, despite how full her calendar is. “I found way more than just an office to create and fill my prescriptions,” she said. “Each visit has been a positive experience and any needs that I have had have been addressed quickly and completely.”
No matter how busy you may be, scheduling an eye exam should be top priority if you haven’t had one in a while. Even if you think you have perfect vision, booking an annual eye exam is one of the best things you can do to protect yourself and prevent any serious health issues that you may otherwise not be aware of.
